Football Fail
Jack had football practice Tuesday night. It's flag football, not tackle. You know, the kind where you aren't supposed to get hurt? Yeah, well, Jack challenged that Tuesday night. It was the very last play of the practice. He ran into someone and fell hard. Real hard. He fell so hard, that we ended up in the ER with a broken clavicle. :(
Does he look pitiful, or what? He was! Believe me. It was hard on this Momma to watch her baby in so much pain. Jack was a trooper, though. He didn't cry when it happened. It wasn't until later that he shed a few tears. He is one tough cookie! It hurt, though. It hurt real bad.
The first night was really rough. The Loritab just didn't help the pain much at all. It also didn't help with sleep much like we thought it would. That was a loooong night. Here he is the next morning looking oh so pitiful. Everything hurt. It even hurt to yawn. Bless his heart.
Once we were able to get his Tylenol with Codeine filled, things improved some. Thank you Lord for Codeine! It helped so much!
See the difference?
We are fortunate that Jack's assistant coach happens to be an orthopedic surgeon. He asked us to come see him at his office the next day. He pretty much confirmed what we already knew. It is broken and will take 4-6 weeks to heal. No surgery needed though! Praise God!
I promised Jack a treat on the way home from the doctor. Of, course, he wanted Steak-N-Shake (his favorite)! And thanks to Ms. Natalie, he now knows what a mint cookies and cream milkshake tastes like. Ha! He needed one of those! ;)
He hasn't been able to do much more than sleep, watch TV, play video games and eat. Everything hurts him.
He is doing better with each day. He will return to school on Monday. It won't be easy, but he will make it. With time, it will get easier and easier.
I have to mention how blessed we have been by everyone's messages, calls, etc... The outpouring of love and concern has been amazing. Erin showed up with dinner on Wednesday night. This was such a big help to me with everything going on that day! Kelly brought slurpies! That was so sweet of her! Sheila helped get Judd to Church. Marissa brought Jack his favorite breakfast from Panera the next morning. That made his day! Erin even dropped off a little afternoon surprise that afternoon! Amy offered to grocery shop for me if I needed her to, and go with me to Jack's appointment if I needed help. Amber offered to bring dinner. The offers to help just kept pouring in. How blessed are we? We are so thankful for these friends that God has placed in our lives here in Tulsa. They are the kinds of friends that "stand in the gap" when you need them to. When something like this happens and you don't have family near, these kinds of friends become family. They are such a special gift from God. We are thankful for every single one of them!
Blessed. That's what we are! :)
