Sweet Home Alabama...Summer of 2014

Our traditional summer vacation to Mobile was anything but traditional this year.  We are accustomed to staying 3-4 weeks there visiting with family and going to the beach.  With the house closing so late in the summer, sports camps, church camps, band camp, and work commitments, we were forced to cut our time in Mobile much shorter this year.  We only got to be there a week.  We were thankful for that week, but it was a challenge trying to share just one week with two sets of Grandparents, four sisters, and a bunch of cousins.  We made the best of it, though, and had a good time!  :)

We loaded up Friday morning (a week after closing on our house) and headed south to Alabama!

On the way down, we made a little stop.  Just couldn't help ourselves.  We passed right by it!

"Hey Jack!"

Too bad we didn't see Uncle Si or Phil.  It was still fun, though!

We made it to Mobile and weren't there 20 minutes, when Jack decided to show off some of his new wrestling moves he learned at camp this summer.  Let's just say, it didn't end well.  :(  My poor baby ended up with a concussion.  He had to have a CT Scan and everything, but he was so brave.  He just felt terrible and couldn't stop throwing up.  My poor buddy.  :(

Due to the concussion, we had to make some changes to our plans for the week.  We were a little sad, but it turned out ok.  We reminded ourselves that we were there to see family.  It didn't matter what we did, as long as we were spending time with them!  :)

We got both families together for dinner at the Rocky Creek catfish place.  It was fun!  I always get nervous mixing the families together, but I think it went well.

I failed to get Mimi and Big Daddy's pic.  Boo.  :(

I think our car had the most fun on the way home from Rocky Creek.  Matt turned up the tunes and we were jamming out!  He threw in a few "trooper turns" for kicks!  It was pretty awesome!  Ha!

We enjoyed lots of time just hanging out with Kris and Kam.  Wish we could see them more!  :(

Poor Jack spent some time on the couch after his concussion.  Mae Mobley loved him!

Jack and Kam didn't mind shopping with us one bit thanks to their ipads!  Ha!

Lunch at California Dreamin'!

Goofin' around with my sister!  Ha!  We got some looks and honks while doing this!  LOL!

My sister's brown baby, Mae Mobley!

Swinging on the back porch.

A trip to B&B Pet Stop, of course!  :)

I must be at my Mama's house!!!!  Mmmmmmm!

The kids had a slumber party at Mimi and Big Daddy's house.  Naturally, Big Daddy went and got them donuts for breakfast.  Check out those bed heads!

Jack gave us the "thumbs up" that he was feeling better, so we took off to Destin, FL for the day with Mee Maw and Pee Paw!

First stop...The Back Porch for lunch.  Yum!

Not a bad view from our table.

I told them I would not go to the ocean and not let the boys get in for a few.

Sadly, the Florida beaches were a little disappointing that day.  All of the rain brought in a ton of seaweed.

At least we got to dip our toes in, though!

We went to the Gulfarium in Ft. Walton Beach after lunch.  It was fun watching the sea lion show!

Beautiful!

Last stop...The Original Oyster House on the bay!

Best grits ever!

Max hung out back at Mee Maw and Pee Paw's house.  He begged to come inside the entire time we were there.  Ha!

On our last day in Mobile, we decided to take the kids canoeing down Styx River.  They had a good time!

Like I said, it was a short trip, but we managed to cram as much as we could into one week.  It's good to be back home in our new house trying to settle in, but we miss our family already.  We are thankful for the memories we got to make with them this summer!

Now, it's YOUR TURN to come see us!  ;)
